Accessibility Info

  • Building: The shop is located on the main floor. The main door to the building is non-automatic and there is a small lip in the doorway.
    • For customers who need assistance with non-automatic doors, please feel free to message ahead or call 780-784-5265 when you arrive.
    • There are chairs available to sit on, including wide armchairs with low armrests.

    • The shop is lit by fluorescent lights. If you have light sensitivity, please feel free to inform the folks serving you during the daytime. There is typically sufficient natural light during daytime hours.
    • We ask that people NOT wear fragrances or scents when visiting the store. The store itself may be lightly scented from smudging, a cedar spray made with essential oils, and/or some scented personal care products.

    • Bathrooms: There is a multi-stall all gender washroom in the building, shared with other people in the building. The washroom is stocked with free menstrual supplies, safer sex supplies, a first aid kit, and a naloxone kit.
      • Check out Refuge Restrooms to find other gender neutral washrooms, or add ones you know about!

What types of payment do you accept?

    • Accepted payment options in person include cash, debit (tap or chip), and credit card (tap, chip, or swipe). If none of those options work for you, talk to us and we can do an etransfer!
    • Through the online shop, payment options are credit card or paypal. If you don't have access to these payment types, email us and we can do a manual order via etransfer.

Do I have to use my legal name / deadname for online orders?

No, maybe, yes... let us explain!
    • The reasons you might need to use your legal name are for billing purposes (through paypal or to match the name on a credit card) and if you have to pick up your order from the post office which requires presenting ID.
    • You do NOT need to use your legal name for your contact information/shipping address if you are a) ordering for local pickup or b) can receive mail directly without needing to visit a post office.
    • Providing your first name at the online checkout is ALWAYS optional, so you can leave that blank, use an initial, or just put your last name (legal or that you go by if different) for your order.
      • If we see a discrepancy between the name on the shipping/pickup information and on the billing information, we will always default to the name under shipping/pickup, not billing.
        • We will never share your personal information without your consent. If we learn your legal name through an online transaction and that is not the name you go by, we promise that we will not internalize or remember it, because that's just trans culture!! <3
      • If you want your order addressed to the name you use or a pseudonym (even if it's not your legal name), or addressed to someone else, you can always leave a comment in the "Add a note to your order" box upon checkout.

What is your packaging like? Can my order be packaged discreetly?

      • Packages shipped through the mail normally have our shop name and address on the return label, and we like to decorate with some fun stickers! Some of our envelopes are bright colours too.
      • If you would like your order to be packaged discreetly, PLEASE LEAVE A NOTE when you check out so we can do this for you. Be as specific as possible about your needs and we will match it as closely as possible.
        • For example, we can choose a plain manila envelope instead of a colourful one, not include our shop name on the return address, leave the envelope undecorated, write the addressee's name a specific way (or use a different name than you usually go by), etc. Just let us know!
        • If we have any follow up questions about how you need your order packed, we'll contact you by email before sending your order.

Are kids welcome in the shop?

      • We welcome visits from people of all ages! Some items in the store feature swear words and depictions of nudity, plus we have (free) safer sex supplies out, so come prepared to explain these things to any children you bring along :)

Can I come just to browse?

    • Visitors are welcome during drop in hours whether making a purchase or not. We are also happy to offer fitting appointments for gender affirming items whether it results in a purchase or if you end up buying from elsewhere!
    • There are always some items available for free in the shop :)
      • Trans folks can check out the trans community fund to see if it is a good fit. Note that accessing the Trans Community Fund requires contacting a local lgbtq-serving organization first.

Are you accepting work by new artists? How does consignment work?

      • We accept new artists on a rolling basis. More details about potentially vending or consigning with us can be found here.

If you have any other questions, ideas, or comments about accessibility or anything else store related, please feel free to email us at thequiltbag@gmail.com
